Compare two ways to commission professional work
A subscription and a one-time build can both involve hiring someone to make a website. Their payment schedules do not tell you everything about the work, ongoing responsibility or rights. Compare the written agreements before assuming either model includes maintenance or transfers the implementation.

When the subscription can fit
A subscription can fit a contractor who wants continued maintenance and a defined small-edit allowance with the build. The recurring work must be useful to your business, and the commitment and departure terms need to suit you. A monthly payment does not mean you can cancel without a remaining initial-term obligation.
When the one-time project can fit
A one-time project can fit a contractor who wants a separately scoped build and has a plan for hosting, maintenance and later edits. Request the deliverables and rights in writing. Consider who can operate the site after handover and whether moving providers requires paid work. Those details vary by agreement; they are not inherent advantages of every one-time quote.
